Some random scenes from "Unfamiliar Memories", my own atypical high school AU, involving memories of alternate existances, an entire island disappearing and reappearing except on purpose rather than a hilarious oversight, unlike The Fic That Must Not Be Named, escapes from the military, and little kid!Shadow.
Warning: Last scene will contain spoilers for the story. The first one will probably be in the first chapter anyway, so who cares?

The red echidna (his jacket said “Cruz”; Sonic’s mind noted) had the hedgehog pinned against the chain link fence. With nothing left to try, the hedgehog kicked as hard as he could. The echidna winced, but stood his ground and muttered, “They’re internal, bitch. Learn your biology.”
“So, what you’re sayin’ is you’re really a chick, Ms. Cruz?” Sonic said defiantly.
“I AM NOT A WOMAN CHAOS-DAMMIT—“
Just then, there was sound like some hit the fence hard. The resulting wave knocked them both off-balance and to the ground. Sonic looked up from his new position across Cruz’s lap and saw a small—likely furry from the height—hooded robe-clad female holding a very, very large mallet. “If you are quite finished…” the figure began. The mallet vanished into thin air. “As much as I enjoy two boys catfighting, enough is enough.” She sighed. “The cards indicated conflict, but I didn’t think it’d be between The Fool and The Emperor…”
“You had better be calling him a fool, lady,” Cruz growled. “Just because you’re a woman doesn’t mean I won’t fight you.”
The hedgehog smirked. “Ah, so you’re an equal-opportunity asshole, then!”
Cruz shoved the hedgehog off of him and turned to the girl. “Just who are you, anyway? And why are you calling me an emperor?”
”You the emperor? I’m the emperor! You’re the fool!” Sonic protested.
“No, you’re the fool!”
“You!”
“YOU!”
The mallet crashed down mere inches away from them. “Knock it OFF!” the female yelled. She made the mallet vanish again. “The echidna is right. His card is The Emperor. Yours is The Fool. It has nothing to do with your intelligence. And as for who I am…” She pulled back the hood, revealing herself as a pink hedgehog, quills styled in a short bob. “There’s no need to fear; Amy Rose is here!”

His two-colored eyes couldn’t believe what they saw. “Ivo?! Is it really you?”
Ivo stood in the doorway, still the spitting image of his grandfather at that age. He approached his friend and mentor with open arms and embraced him. “Gordon! They tell me it’s been years!”
Gordon hugged back for a moment, then pulled back enough to look at Ivo. “You have no memory of the past four years? Then it really must have—“
“—been ‘Chaos Control’,” Ivo finished with a nod. “It’s been proven without a doubt it’s possible now.”
“Good, we’ll need it…” the older researcher muttered grimly, avoiding Ivo’s eyes.
Ivo peered at him over his glasses. “What was that?”
“I’ll explain later,” Gordon replied. Silence fell over the pair for a moment before he spoke again. “I have… news. Maria…”
Bells went off in the younger inventor’s head. “I have a feeling you’re not going to say you two got back together.”
Gordon slowly shook his head. “No, Ivo. She’s… She’s dead.”
Another pause. “I see.” The inventor adjusted his glasses. “She has been ill since she was a child…”
Gordon raised a hand to stop him. “No, it wasn’t because of her illness.” He began to shake. “They… GUN… Those bastards murdered her!”
Ivo recoiled. GUN? But why…?! “Why…? What happened, Gordon? Why would they go after Maria?”
“Because, Ivo,” the older researcher said, sagging and unthinkingly trying to hide his face, “I went back on a deal with the devil. I never imagined the child would find his way to her.” His shoulders sagged lower. “No, that’s not true. For some reason, while I cared for him, I had this feeling he would be her end.”
All Ivo could do was give his mentor a strange look. “Perhaps you should start at the beginning. I’ll ask again: What happened, Gordon?”
